People experiencing economic hardship or social isolation are welcomed to enjoy the comforts of a home-cooked meal and friendship at Matt’s Place community meals program in Cheltenham and Chelsea. Matt’s Place, open every Tuesday and Thursday, provides warm hospitality for those who are doing it tough or are disconnected from the community.  A two-course hot meal is provided as well as an opportunity for connection and social interaction through activities.

The Melbourne Basket Brigade is a small and dedicated group of volunteers who assist locals in need. This year they will be packing and delivering baskets of food and other goods to families in need. These deliveries are made anonymously and arrive just in time for Christmas. Melbourne Basket Brigade organise fundraising events throughout the year which help us raise valuable funds to enable us to deliver as many baskets as possible.

For families who have lost everything, Christmas will hurt most. While many Australians are enjoying the warm feelings that Christmas brings, there are shattered families with hurt and fear in their hearts. Sadly, the impact COVID-19 is having on Australians is hurting in ways people never expected. It’s not just isolation, loneliness and hardship. It’s the hidden violence hurting families too. Your generosity to the Salvos Christmas Appeal will give a family the urgent help they desperately need to heal their hurt. Safe refuge and a caring Salvo. Christmas lunch. Presents for the kids.

If you would like to get on our volunteer database please join our main Facebook group and send a message to the admin team. There are ongoing volunteer opportunities & also packing sessions when required.
